Astrological Society of Austin May 2010 Meeting

You say you want a revolution? This month the planet Uranus enters the fiery sign Aries for an eight-year sojourn. Uranus in Aries doesn’t sit on the sidelines; it demands change and takes action NOW. This placement suggests pioneering scientific breakthroughs, sudden and spontaneous deeds aimed at seizing individual freedoms, and the urge to act from one’s authentic self.

Uranus enters Aries May 28, 2010, and (after a few months retrograde back into Pisces later this year) stays until May 15, 2018. The last time Uranus visited the sign of the Ram was 1927-1935, an era that saw the Great Depression and the New Deal. What will the coming transit bring to the world stage this time around?

The Astrological Society of Austin will host an open forum for astrologers and students of astrology to discuss this major celestial event. Donna Woodwell will give a brief introductory lecture on the discovery and use of Uranus by astrologers, then Tiffany Garres will lead a discussion on the chart for the Uranus ingress into Aries chart and predictions for the coming decade. All opinions and questions are welcome!

Celebrate your sacred luna-cy!  In this magical evening under a moonrise eclipse, Donna Woodwell will team up with the “Celestial Intelligencer” Kenneth Miller to present a luscious lunar tale of East-meets-West.

Donna will discuss Moon the Moon in Western folklore and magic, including working with the Moon’s signs and phases, void of course Moons, and more. Kenneth will present the East Indian side to the Moon, in colorful story and myth, as well as reveal an easy way to use the moon’s natural sidereal cycle to create abundance in your life.

Bring a blanket or chair in case the class decides to sit outside and watch the eclipse. Plus, to double the fun, two people will win prizes.  This is one festive evening you won’t want to miss!

Kenneth Miller has been a student of astrology since a child, and a professional astrologer since 2004, currently completing his master’s degree in the history of astrology. He is one of the few astrologers that has received formal training in Hellenistic, Western Medieval, and traditional jyotish (Indian) astrology.  Certified as a Vedic astrologer (ACVA level II), he practices Jyotish in San Diego, CA.

Take an expedition into the magical world of Tarot. In this class we’ll follow the Fool on his journey through the Major and Minor Arcana and reflect on how Tarot images manifest in our daily lives. By the end of the class, you’ll be ready to read the cards yourself! We’ll use images from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, but you can also bring along your own favorite deck.

How does your garden grow? Gardening by the stars to produce bountiful harvests is an ancient tradition. In this class, we’ll learn to follow the natural cycles of the sun and moon to promote vitality and abundance in your garden, and in your life.  And, if you don’t have space for a garden of your own, we’ll discuss how the same techniques can be applied to a container garden on your patio or your kitchen counter, or even what’s in your pantry. Part of this class will be held in Donna’s backyard garden, so be prepared to get your hands dirty. A perfect way to celebrate the summer solstice!
